Meteors!!!
-She had wanted to go to space to do a mission but had found herself without a way there. Some kind travelers with a ship had agreed to let her tag along with them.- “Thank you so much, I don’t know what I would have done without your help.” -They smiled at her before the woman responded.- “Well there is always room for one more, besides, I would rather enjoy the company of another female.” -The both laughed some before they boarded the ship and headed away from the planet. As they entered space they found themselves caught in the middle of a downpour of meteors. The ship was small and could not take more than a couple hits from the meteors before it was done. She was frantically running around trying to help in any way she could but the other persons were in a state of panic. She knew that she had to bring order to the ship, otherwise it was certain doom for them all. Quickly pulling the pilot from his seat she sat upon it and gripped the wheel. Dodging left and right to avoid the meteors she saw a rather large one headed for the ship. Looking for a way around it she quickly realized there wasn’t one. She announced to the others.- “There is no way around this large meteor without hitting the smaller ones. So here is the plan, I will avoid the larger one by hitting a smaller one, it will do damage but far less than if I took on the big meteor. Brace yourselves for this one.”
-The others had all grabbed hold of something so that they would not fall over. She quickly turned the ship to the left of the large meteor that was hurling towards them. She hit a rather small meteor dead on. The ship rattled and a few red lights started blinking. They had taken little damage but enough that the ship was in a threat of being destroyed if she hit more than one more meteor. She let out the breath she had been holding in.- “Is everyone alright back there?” -A group of muttered “Yeah, I’m ok” and “Just a bit shaken up” could be heard from the group. No one was hurt which eased her mind as she continued to make her way through the downpour. The ship was being jerked to either side which she knew shook up the other travelers but she had no choice. The ride went smoothly for a few more moments before one of the children on the ship approached her. He wasn’t much of a child but younger than her. There was no smile on her face and the look of frustration that was there worried her.- “What is it?” -The boy responded with a heavy sadness in his voice.- “The meteor you hit damaged one of the gas tanks. This ship is small but it has two. We can make it for awhile on one but if that one is destroyed we will be dead in space so to speak.” -She cursed under her breath but made sure a smile remained on her face as not to frighten them.- “Well, I guess we’ll just have to make sure the one stays in tact now wont we.” -She said in a calm voice, as though the first being destroyed did not bother her at all, when truthfully it scared the crap out of her.-
-When she looked up from talking to the boy she noticed another larger meteor headed for the ship. Though it was smaller than the first there was, once again, no way around this one either. She took a deep breath before speaking once more to the other travelers.- “Well, we are in another sticky situation everyone. Brace yourselves for another hit. It will have to be on the same side as the last meteor or we might damage the other gas tank.” -The group uttered words of fear which made her heart sink. She knew what they felt but she did not fear death so she could not offer any words of comfort. Biting her bottom lip some she jerked the wheel to the left once more. One of the smaller meteors smashed into the ship yet again. A few more lights went off and some noises sounded. When she straightened the ship she spoke.- “Well, we are out of the worst of it and still afloat but will someone PLEASE make the noise stop!” -The younger boy that had told her about the gas tank problems disappeared for a moment. The lights and sounds shut off soon after. The boy reappeared and she smiled some to him.- “Thanks.” -He responded with a soft nod. She looked ahead and realized they were almost out of the downpour of meteors. Relieved she spoke to the rest of the group.- “We will be out of the meteors in a moment. The ship will do fine as long as we don’t hit any more meteors. At that point we can continue floating through space as planned for your little getaway and the old pilot can take back control of the ship.” -Muttered words of thankfulness and hurray’s were heard from behind her.-
-She dodge the last couple of meteors and pulled the ship from the downpour the moment she saw an exit. Easily making it out without hitting another meteor she handed off control to the first pilot. He thanked her and sat down comfortably in his seat once again. She made her way back to the rest of the group with a soft smile. A few of them thanked her and she simply replied.- “No need to thank me, I was saving me own ass too you know.” -She laughed softly, as did the others. The pilot set the cruise on the ship and relaxed back in his chair. The oldest woman moved to the kitchen of the ship and began to grab different assortments of food. Handing some to each of them, she took her on a soft smile and thanked the woman. She replied.- “It’s the least I can do for your help.” -She nodded some and they began to float around space. It was oddly calming as she lay back and enjoyed her meal.-
